  • Mike Altmeier

    VMD

VCA Del Val is really where Dr. Altmeier was first introduced to this amazing profession, and he is absolutely thrilled to be rejoining the staff who taught him so much as a young aspiring veterinarian. He first worked at Del Val as a room technician and surgery assistant to Dr. Madzy, Dr. B, Dr. Morin, and Dr. Urbaniak. The tech supervisor, Jenn, introduced him to patient monitoring and pulling blood; and the office manager, Carol, introduced him to the finer points about client communication. After a few summers of employment at Del Val, a 2-week externship after veterinary school, and a cracked thumbnail from Scooter, the African Grey, Dr. Altmeier returned to VCA where it all started. Dr. Altmeier graduated in 2009 from the University of Penn before getting advanced training at a rotating internship at VCA VRA in MD. He then returned to practice emergency and general practice at VCA Old Marple for 3 yrs. While at Old Marple, Dr. Altmeier also performed relief work at 5 local VCA practices, which gave him the opportunity to see how multiple practices operate. Most recently, he served as Medical Director at VCA Wellington. When the opportunity opened up for a similar position to return to Del Val and rejoin the team that was so instrumental in his early career, he was very excited to pursue it. Dr. Altmeier's professional interests include internal medicine, emergency medicine, patient care, and some exotics work. He is also a strong believer in community outreach to better get to know, and cultivate relationships with our clients. In his free time, he and his wife Stephanie enjoy taking their pit mix, Jobe, on hikes and jogs in Fairmount Park, and await at the beck and call of their diva cat, Jersey.
